Clarke County Court Dockets

Clarke County Magistrate Dockets
Magistrate Court is central to many early criminal and civil docket events in Athens-Clarke County. It handles first appearances and bond hearings, preliminary hearings, pre-warrant application hearings, warrant applications, bad-check matters, dispossessory cases, garnishments, civil claims up to $15,000, abandoned motor vehicles, and personal property foreclosures. The court's records request instructions are also useful for older dockets: traffic records from December 31, 1960 through June 30, 1985 are in Magistrate records, and criminal Magistrate records run from December 24, 1960 to present. Before November 4, 1992, only handwritten docket books are maintained.

Federal Dockets Near Clarke County
Federal dockets are not Clarke County court dockets. Federal civil and criminal cases for the Athens Division of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia use federal CM/ECF and PACER systems. The Athens federal office serves Clarke and several nearby counties, but those records are held by the federal court, not the Clarke County Clerk. Bankruptcy cases also use the federal bankruptcy court system, and appeals generally go to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Missed Clarke County Court Dates
A missed court date can create a new docket event. Municipal Court states that failure to appear can lead to a failure-to-appear fee, and if a warrant is issued to bring the person to court, a warrant fee may also apply. Motor-vehicle citations can also affect license status after reporting to Georgia DDS. Date-change requests should be made before the hearing.
