Clarke County Superior Court
Georgia's court hierarchy includes six trial-level classes: Superior, State, Juvenile, Probate, Magistrate, and Municipal courts. The Superior Court is Georgia's general-jurisdiction trial court. Clarke County Superior Court Comparison
Most record errors start with the wrong court. A felony indictment, divorce, or land-title dispute belongs on the Superior Court side. A first appearance, small claim, eviction, or warrant application may start in Magistrate Court. A payable traffic citation or local ordinance charge may be Municipal Court. Clarke County Case Process
Case movement depends on charge type and filing type. A felony may begin with arrest, warrant, bond, or preliminary-hearing activity, then move to Superior Court for indictment, arraignment, motions, plea or trial, sentencing, and appeal. A divorce starts as a Superior Court civil family filing with service, temporary issues, discovery, mediation, final hearing, and decree. Lower-court decisions may move up through appeal or transfer when Georgia law allows.

Clarke County Superior Court Parties
The Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney serves Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties. The official District Attorney page says the office primarily prosecutes in the Superior Court of Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties and is responsible for criminal cases involving at least one felony charge. The office may also pursue certain civil actions, including RICO, drug, gambling, and bond forfeiture matters.
The Public Defender route is separate from the court clerk. Clarke County Accountability Courts
A Superior Court record may show accountability-court events instead of a simple plea and sentence. Athens-Clarke County's accountability courts include DUI/Drug Court, Family Dependency Treatment Court, Felony Drug Court, Parental Accountability Court, Treatment and Accountability Court, and Veterans Court. These programs can add compliance hearings, treatment reviews, sanctions, incentives, phase movement, graduation, or termination events to the case record.
Felony Drug Court is a Superior Court accountability court for felony-level drug-related cases. Veterans Court is also tied to Superior Court and serves participants whose crimes stem from veteran status. The Western Circuit Veterans Treatment Court serves Clarke and Oconee counties and was implemented in September 2014. Parental Accountability Court is a joint effort involving Superior Court judges and child-support services.
